Renee seemed a little too eager to video my being attacked by Tex, a state police canine.  Tex's handler is Trooper Shaun Porter.  This was at the Whatever Festival's Kids' Day Events Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center.

"Do the Bartman"

The Simpsons will re-air the music video for "Do the Bartman" and show a title card in memory of Michael Jackson before Sunday's episode at 8 p.m. on Fox, EW.com has learned. The 1990 pop-rap hit was co-written by Jackson without credit. A fan of the animated comedy, the pop sensation—who passed away on Thursday—told executive producer James L. Brooks that he wanted to write a No. 1 song for Bart.

"Lisa Marie on MJ"

Former Mrs.Michael Jackson and Elvis' daughter, Lisa-Marie Presley, opens up about a conversation with MJ:
"At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, 'I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did.' I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that." Ugh, will we ever see the sun again? I need some sun! My lawn needs to be mowed! And my dog needs a good walking on a nice day!  The good news is KidsDay will still go on.  They have moved it from Capital Park to the UMA ballfields and parking lot to the south of the Augusta Civic Center.  If you park in the parking lot at the Augusta Civic Center and just look around you will see where all the fun is happening!

"Dr. Kammerer Without Hair"

Local Augusta pediatrician Kieran Kammerer, who was recently on The Moose Morning Show, helped put together a yard sale for his assistant, Tammy Morgan, who has been diagnosed with cancer.  The benefit was a huge success.  As a side fundraiser, Dr. Kammerer said that if he could raise $500 in additional funds, he'd shave his head, facial hair and all, to support Tammy, who has experienced hair loss as a result of chemo.  As you can see, the money was raised.  Below is Dr. Kammerer with Tammy.

"Maine Lake Charts"

Bummer....my China Lake Chart suddenly blew out of my boat the other afternoon as I tooled around by myself taking in my beautiful surroundings, oblivious to things like heavy plastic charts blowing by me, apparently. According to Maine Lake Charts owner, Tim Thurston, these maps DO NOT (unbeknownst to me) FLOAT.  Too bad I wasted half an hour trolling around the area I THINK it blew out.  It was probably already at the bottom.  Too bad.  I love these things.  I have a collection going of all the lakes I want to boat on this summer.....St. George, Rangeley, Mooselookmeguntic, Great Pond, Moosehead....I've got a pile of them.  Not cheap....$11.95 each for either a folding waterproof map or a flat, laminated chart (my choice).  They have depths, hazards, markers, launches and more.  Worth the money as far as I'm concerned.  A twelve dollar map or a 130+ dollar propeller (or worse).

UPDATE: After calling Jen at Lakeside Country Store in China and asking her to keep her eyes peeled for anyone finding a lost chart and seeking it's owner, I got a surprise.  Jen and her little girl Katlyn stopped by The Home Depot in Waterville, where I was broadcasting, with a new chart!  A more recent one with improvements, showing shallow areas!  What nice people I have in my life!  Thank you Jen and Lakeside owners, Parris and Kathy Varney.  Nice people rock!

"State Park Passes For All Vets"

From my initial contact with Senator Mitchell, Senator Plowman, Representative Du Houx and others, everyone agreed the legislation which excluded so many of our veterans from park passes was a horrible oversight. I take them at their word.

Because so many of the "we the people" made noise and said this needs to be corrected, the legislature acted, and quickly. Below is a much welcome letter from Senator Libby Mitchell I got today that certainly, in my mind, satisfies the issue.

Thank you Senators and Representatives. Go and have a great summer.

LETTER FROM SENATOR MITCHELL

Subject: Vets in park

We passed the corrective legislation yesterday. For this summer, vets need to make their best effort to show proof of service to qualify for state park pass. Over the summer, General Libby will be developing a park pass system for veterans to make it easier for everyone.

Thanks for your efforts!

"State Park Pass For (a limited number of) Veterans"

How cheap can our beloved state of Maine (The Way Life Should Be [oh really?]) get? Here's the legislation I lambasted our legislature for this morning. This was sent to me by a military captain who says we had complete understanding of the text when we launched our tirade. Don't put up with this! ALL (read "every single") veteran, should be equal in the eyes of this government. ALL veterans signed up to take a proverbial bullet for their country. I'm not a veteran but I am sickened over the callous disregard shown to ALL veterans by excluding so many heros of past conflicts and, yes, even peacetime. The willingness of our uniformed men and women to fight for us is why, in large part, we have peace. To them, I say THANK YOU. To our legislature, I say SHAME ON YOU!

Here ya go: (note the operative, volitile and highly insulting phrase "select veterans")

The State of Maine offers select Maine veterans who have served overseas for three months between October 1, 2001 and January 1, 2015 free admission to all State Parks and historic sites. Eligibility requirements are listed below: * Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management will examine individual discharge certificate from active duty service, known as a DD214. * The person must be a resident of the State of Maine. * The person received an Honorable Discharge or General Discharge under Honorable Conditions. * Between October 1, 2001 and January 1, 2015, while a member of the Maine National Guard or an active or reserve member served under Title 10 status. * Person served for minimum of 3 continuous months outside the United States during an operational mission or during a period of War declared by the United States Congress or a national emergency declared by the President of the United States or Congress. Formerly LD 456, "An Act to Provide Free Admission to State Parks to Veterans and Military Personnel", the law Sec. 1/2, 12 MRSA § 819 & Sec. 3 37-B MRSA § 6 is quite specific in who qualifies for the free admission in state parks and historic sites. The day pass entitles the holder, holder's spouse and children when accompanied by the holder free admission. The pass is valid for a minimum of 12 months.
